SHIMOGA: Deputy Commissioner T.K. Anilkumar said on Thursday that the district had made significant contribution in the fields of art, literature and culture of the State. Addressing a gathering at Nehru Stadium after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Rajyotsava day, he said that Shimoga district had a distinctive record in taking the art, culture and literature of the State to the global arena. “It is our duty to recall the contribution of poets, writers and artistes from the district in their respective fields,” he added. The district had drawn the attention of the rest of the country with its development in education, industry, agriculture, forests and irrigation in the last 50 years. Director of Planning P.B. Hemachandra, Deputy Director of Horticulture Shakeel Ahmed, tahsildar Mohammad Sadiq, Assistant Director of Land Records B.V. Srinivas, Secretary of Churchagundi Gram Panchayat D. Seenappa and ‘D’ group employee Parameshwarappa were honoured with “Nagarika Seva Sibbandi” awards. Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat P. Bore Gowda and Superintendent of Police Arun Chakravarthy were present.
