Parab festival gets under way at Gupteswar

KORAPUT: PARAB-2007 was launched on Thursday at the holy shrine of Gupteswar by Minister for Energy and Culture Suryanarayan Patro.

Ashok Pangi, Zilla Parishad chairman of Koraput , MLAs Rabi Narayan Nanda and Jayaram Pangi and District Collector Balakrushna Sahu were also present..

Tribal dance troupes, band parties and people in general from all blocks of the district are participating in the celebrations with keen interest to explore their oneness in the diversified culture and traditions.

For Sadan Jani of Pottangi this gathering had given him a new dimension to relocate his missing link between different groups of tribals living in different parts of the district. The launching of PARAB had a great meaning for him and scores of tribals like him who might not have got an opportunity to meet people living on the other places in the district , he said.

As part of celebration, the Mnister had carried the holy water of Sabari river and poured on Shiva Linga of Lord Gupteswar.

The torch specially prepared for the launching ceremony was lit and was carried to the stage by Mr. Ashok Pangi.

Earlier, the Minister released the posters of festival and declared it open. The teams from the blocks and ULBs carried their respective torches being lit from the master torch.

Parab festival will be celebrated at the blocks and ULBs on the stipulated dates in their respective headquarters , K.C. Nishanko, District Culture Officer, said .

The festival would conclude on Nov.18 at Koraput, he added.
