Big show: Panelists of ’The Conclave’ releasing a memento of ‘Expressions-07’ on the inaugural day at XIMB in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. — BHUBANESWAR: The annual festival city-based B-school Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), Xpressions-2007 was kicked off here on Thursday. Addressing a press conference here just before the beginning of Xpressions’07, general secretary of the event, Mayank Madhur, said the four-day-long show was a result of six months of relentless efforts by students of XIMB. Students said they had roped in several corporate houses for fundraising to realise the event. “We are spending about Rs. 45 lakh on the annual shows, which is one of the biggest in eastern India. Of which Rs. 10 lakh has been earmarked for prize money,” Mr. Madhur said. The day one began with Helios, a game aimed at creating awareness among undergraduates regarding managerial skills and business avenues. In the evening, business leader and intellectuals gathered in a panel discussion on merger and acquisition in Indian market. The speakers included S. Siddiqui, Director-Projects (Vedanta Industries), Krishna Angara, Director-operation (Vodafone), Rajeev Dubey, Deputy Editor of Business World and Tamal Dasgupta, Senior Vice President of WIPRO. Cultural showsFore next few days, students of XIMB would not be only ones enjoying several cultural shows and participating in fun-filled competitions, they would be joined by their peers from other reputed B-schools across the country. “We will be hosting about 350 students from different prestigious institutions such as IIMs, IITs, IIFT and foreign universities like REIMS, France and Euromed Marseille, France,” Mr. Madhur said. He said the interaction with students of other campuses would help in gaining ideas of business and career avenues opening up in different sectors. “The students are putting up in our hostel and boarding arrangements have also been done outside,” Mr. Madhur said.
