57 irrigation projects under NABARD scheme have been completed during the past 32 months Power project to be completed within a record time of 15 months CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government will spend Rs. 1,240 crore on four irrigation projects which will come up in the near future, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Thursday while laying the foundation stone for two projects in Dadupur village, 20 km from Yamunanagar. Mr. Hooda said 57 irrigation projects under a NABARD scheme had already been completed during the past 32 months while work on 55 other projects was in progress. Mr. Hooda said the 6,000-KW hydel power project which would come up at Dadupur would be constructed by Bhoruka Power Corporation Limited. He directed senior officials of the Corporation to complete the project within a record time of 15 months and provide round-the-clock power supply to Dadupur. This, he said, was his gift to the people of Dadupur on the occasion of Haryana Day. Non-conventional Energy Resources Director Sumita Mishra said that 297 lakh units of power would be generated from the project after completion. Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said the State Government would achieve the target of generating an additional 5,000 MW power during the present five-year tenure and the consumers would get sufficient power for their needs. Earlier, Mr. Hooda laid the foundation stone for a project to enhance the capacity of Western Yamuna Canal from the existing 13,500 cusecs to 19,866 cusecs. He asserted that after this increase in capacity, 3.6 lakh acre-feet water of Haryana’s share which goes waste in the Yamuna would be used up for irrigation purposes. It would enable irrigation of additional 2.4 lakh acres and help in recharging the underground water.
Financial Commissioner (Irrigation) R. N. Parasar said 400 tube-wells which were lying abandoned would be recharged. Optimum use would be made of rain water, he added.
Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Selja, Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav, Parliamentary Secretary Krishna Pandit, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary M. L. Tayal and Bhoruka Power Corporation Limited, Bangalore, Director D. P. Aggarwal were among those present.
