HYDERABAD: APTransco has announced an ambitious Rs. 4,500-crore plan to strengthen its system of transmission lines in the State by constructing 94 extra tension sub-stations and laying transmission lines for 6,275 km in the next few years. These will improve voltage levels, ensuring quality and reliable supply to consumers. This heavy investment will be mobilised from internal sources and the utility will not approach the World Bank. The programme has been grounded partially. Distribution networkSpeaking at a function organised at Vidyuth Soudha to present the annual non-monetary awards to sub-stations/establishments and personnel for their best performance during 2006-7, to mark the State Formation Day on Thursday, Transco CMD Rachel Chatterjee said another massive sum of Rs 5,884 crore would be spent to strengthen the distribution network. The 400-kv sub-station at Mamidipalli through Hyderabad gets its supply, is among the establishments that bagged the best performance awards. She said Transco had emerged as the leader among the power utilities in the country, both financially and technically. Ms. Chatterjee said the grid was managed in such a way that there would not be any problem in supply till the end of summer, with seven-hour supply to the agriculture sector.
