Human Rights panel directs MRO to appear on November 5

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The chairperson of Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission B. Subhashan Reddy has directed the mandal revenue officer of Katrenikona mandal, East Godavari, to appear before the panel on November 5 in connection with a complaint that the MRO had failed to take any rehabilitation measures for three Myanmar fishermen, who landed on December 4, 2001 in the wake of a cyclone.

Following the complaint by a teacher, G.V.N.S.Nehru, the Commission sought and received a report from the Superintendent of Police, East Godavari district on September 19.

‘Neglect evident’

A note from the APSHRC said that it was evident from the SP’s report that the MRO had neglected to protect the human rights of the three fishermen Tentoni, Tevoyan and Kotin.
