Four acquitted in dowry case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday acquitted four persons in a case of attempt to murder and harassment for dowry. While acquitting the accused, Justice S. N. Dhingra suggested to the trial courts to be cautious during trial of such cases.

Holding the accused guilty of the offences, a trial court here had sentenced each of them to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment.

“The courts must be very cautious during trial of such cases. In all these cases, except for recording the statements of the complainants and their relatives, the police do nothing,” Mr. Justice Dhingra observed. “I conclude that the complainant by making a false statement had implicated the entire family.”
