To offer e-Learning courses in all 300 affiliated colleges First module comprises 450 multi-media lectures VIJAYAWADA: Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTR-UHS), which established a digital library sometime ago, launched ‘digitised e-Learning courses’ on its campus here on Thursday. The library is equipped with a few computers to enable students and visitors have a tour of the digital courses. The ushering in of latest technologies at the university was described as an attempt to extend the benefits of ‘digitised medical education’ to all its 300 affiliated colleges in the State. As a part of an earlier agreement, the university received from the Hyderabad-based Medical Education Research Centre (MEdRC) the first module of digital courses consisting of 450 multi-media lectures by expert faculty, meant for first year MBBS students. Three months from now, full-fledged courses would be in place when the university takes steps to provide connectivity to its affiliated colleges throughout the State in a bid to leverage latest technologies and e-learning practices for the enhancement of quality of medical teaching and instruction. Speaking to reporters at the launch function, NTR-UHS Vice-Chancellor A.V. Krishnam Raju explained the advantage of digital courses in improving the standards of medical education. “To begin with, the first module for first year MBBS students has been acquired. It is offered free of cost. In the near future, connectivity will be given to all affiliated colleges,” he explained. The MEdRC provided its ‘SmarTeach UGMed Program’ to the university for use in the digital library to be accessed by students and faculty of all affiliated colleges. The program consists of a complete set of undergraduate e-Lectures prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and liberally uses graphics and other visuals. MEdRC managing director Neeraj Raj, university registrar T. Venugopala Rao and others were present.
