DEHRA DUN: Subhash Joshi, an IPS officer of the 1976 batch, took over as the 4th Director General of Police of Uttarakhand on Wednesday. He replaces Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya who has retired. Describing the job as challenging, Mr Joshi said he would ensure a safe and peaceful atmosphere for all law abiding citizen while the criminals would be dealt with strictly. All smiles after relinquishing the top cop job, Ms Bhattacharya, the first woman to have become a DGP, said she was more than proud of the immense love she received from the people of Uttarakhand. A popular officer, she introduced the system of deploying women Home Guards for traffic regulation duties.
