Inspects security arrangements to prevent further incidents in Ramanathapuram
RAMANATHAPURAM: The Director General of Police, P. Rajendran on Thursday visited Mudukulathur to take stock of the security situation in the district.
Accompanied by Additional Director General of Police K. Vijay Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar, Inspector General of Police, South Zone, he also visited Keezha Kanniseri, where the TNCC president, M. Krishnasswamy was attacked by a gang on Monday, Veerambal village, where a Dalit teacher was murdered.
Later he visited Pasumpon village.
Mr. Rajendran discussed with the top-level police officials, who are camping in the district, about the progress of the investigation in various cases registered following the violence broke out after the Krishnasswamy attack.
He also inspected the security arrangements posted in various places of the district to prevent further incidents. The DGP directed the officials to speed up the investigation and arrest all those absconding in the case.
He spent more than 5 hours in the district.
Meanwhile, the State Government has appointed Special Commissioner, M.F. Farooqui, to enquire the circumstances that led to the attack on Mr. Krishnasswamy.
Sources told The Hindu that Mr. Farooqui would start the enquiry by visiting Keezha Kanniseri on Friday.
He is expected to meet a few police officials to get first hand information about the attack.
