BELLARY: There is an opportunity for artistes among the nomadic tribes to exhibit their talent at this year’s Hampi Utsav, a three-day mega cultural festival of dance, music and drama to be inaugurated on Saturday.

This is for the first time that the Hampi Utsav committee has taken a decision to introduce tribal art not only to nurture and propagate it but also to bring it into public realm.

“Sudugadu Siddaru”, “Gondhali”, adventure and acrobatics by physically challenged persons belonging to the “Budagajangama” sect, “Hakki-Pikki” community dance, “Sindhol Potharaja Pradarshan”, “Dombarata”, “Hagalu Veshagararu” are among the other tribal art to be presented for two days at the utsav, in front of the Virupaksha Temple on November 4 and November 5 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

These artistes will be performing in their usual style at the Hampi Bazaar and they would not have the facility of a stage and sound system.

However, the committee has made arrangements for folk artistes participating in the “Janapada Kalavahini” on the concluding day. Hitherto, folk artistes were giving performances near the VVIP stage and then joined a procession. This time, the committee has put up a stage at the bus stand area for the folk artistes to perform before they joined the procession. This is to give them an opportunity, and also for the benefit of the connoisseurs of art and music.

A cycle jatha, adventure and water sports, screening of popular Kannada films, including Nagarahavu, Kittur Rani Chennamma, Bhakta Kumbara, Babruvahana, Muttina Haara, Tayi Saheb, Tuttoori and Bandhana, will be held in Kamalapur and Hospet. An exhibition-cum-sale is among the other attractions at the cultural festival.
