Gaiety marks Kolar Rajyotsava celebrations

KOLAR: Flag hoisting, processions and cultural activities marked the grand celebration of Kannada Rajyotsava here on Thursday. A festive mood prevailed in the city and elsewhere in the district. The people enthusiastically participated
in various activities held on the occasion. The whole city was wrapped with yellow and red buntings representing the colours of the Kannada flag.
At the central programme, organised by the district administration and Sri Bhuvaneshwari Kannada Sangha at Gandhi Park, Deputy Commissioner G. Ramachandra hoisted the Kannada flag, Zilla Panchayat President A.C. Nagarathna and Superintendent of Police B. Dayanand flagged off the procession and MLA K. Srinivas Gowda presided over the function.
Thousands of people gathered at the roadside and on the rooftops of buildings to watch the procession featuring dozens of tableaux. In the forefront was an elephant carrying an idol of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari. Folk troupes added flavour to the celebrations.
Waving Kannada flags and wearing yellow-red bands, the youth danced to the tune of drumbeats.
Tableaux such as the proposed Yergol drinking water project displayed by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and another by Vinayaka Yuvaka Raitha Sangha of Arahalli depicting dangers to the world from unwise human activity attracted the attention of the public. Photos of matinee idol late Rajkumar was garlanded at several places as part of Kannada Rajyotsava.
