Mikhail Youzhny. CHENNAI: World No.18 Mikhail Youzhny has confirmed his participation for the 2008 Chennai Open to be held at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium here from December 31, 2007 to January 6, 2008. The 25-year-old Russian, noted for his single-handed backhand, consistency and all-court game, was ranked as high as 10 in August this year. Youzhny has an interesting mannerism wherein he gives military style salute to the spectators after each victory. He does that by holding the tennis racquet above his head with his left hand and saluting with his right hand. The racquet imitates a hat since according to Russian military tradition one must wear a hat to give proper salute. Fernando Soler, Tournament Director, Chennai Open, said: “I am sure given the support and enthusiasm of Chennai fans, Youzhny will be a treat to watch.”
