TIRUPUR: More than 500 activists All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the Panchayat Union Office in Pongalur, near here, demanding implementation of Athikadavu Second Water Supply Scheme.
Pollachi V. Jayaraman, election wing secretary of the party, presided.
He said that villages around Pongalur were reeling under acute shortage of drinking water.
He wanted regularisation of water supply under the existing scheme immediately.
Mr. Jayaraman charged the police with foisting false cases on party cadres in Pongalur. He asked higher authorities to take proper action against the officials who were responsible for it.
Former Ministers P.V. Damodhiran, S.M. Velusamy and C. Shanmugavelu; MLAs S.P. Velumani, S. Dhamodharan, O.K. Chinnasamy, Chinnasamy and Prema; among others participated in the agitation. They asked officials not to show any disparity in allocating funds for development works.
