Bankers Club inaugurated

TIRUPUR: Bankers Club was inaugurated here recently at the Tirupur Exporters’ Association hall. Eighty exporters and 77 bank officials from 40 banks attended the function. TEA president A. Sakthivel, who inaugurated the club, asked the bankers to consider subvention of 2 per cent interest for exporters.

He said banks should make available packing credit in all currencies, reduce packing credit interest rates to 6 per cent, avoid delay of interest reimbursement under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme and reschedule term loans.

N. Chandran, vice-president of TEA, and Raja M. Shanmugam, chairman, Banking sub-committee, TEA spoke about the setback in the industry in the wake of rupee appreciation.

H. Subramaniam, assistant general manager, State Bank of India (Overseas Branch); S. Balachander, AGM of Indian Overseas Bank; and G.K. Warriar from Dhanalakshmi Bank; offered bankers perspective.

The Bankers Club, said Mr. Subramaniam, will hold meetings to exchange ideas among bankers with a view to identify and solve banking related problems of people.
