BANGALORE: On the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava on Thursday, Governor Rameshwar Thakur hosted high tea for Rajyotsava award winners and other dignitaries at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha here.

The Governor’s advisers, P.P. Prabhu, S. Krishna Kumar and P.K. Tharakan, Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi, and Rajyotsava award winners and other senior government officials attended and exchanged greetings with Mr. Thakur.

The Governor also greeted 21 children in the age group of 5 to 14 years, who participated in a skating rally from Belgaum to Bangalore. The objective of the rally was to create cordial relations between Kannadigas and Marathi-speaking people. The children took four days to cover 530 km between Belgaum and Bangalore.

Except State Janata Dal (Secular) president Merajuddin Patel, none of the elected representatives attended the high tea. The Governor and Mr. Patel exchanged the Rajyotsava greetings.

Kannada meet

To a question on the previous government’s decision to hold a world Kannada conference in Belgaum, the Governor said he was not aware of it. “Any laudable decision taken by the previous government will be pursued,” he said. To mark 50th year of the formation of the State, the Kumaraswamy government had decided to hold the world Kannada conference in Belgaum.
