‘First case of person leaving note about harassment by recovery agent’ Chicken centre owner allegedly humiliated for not paying debt amount HYDERABAD: Harassment and humiliation by bank loan recovery agents drove a chicken centre owner to suicide at Saroornagar, the police said on Thursday. R. Ravikant Reddy, 42, ended his life by hanging in his house at Kodandaramnagar of Dilsukhnagar on Wednesday night reportedly after recovery agents pestered him about repayment of the Rs.17,400 loan he had availed. Suicide noteIn a suicide note purportedly written by him, Reddy stated that he was resorting to the extreme step dejected over the harassment and humiliation by the agents. “The note mentioned that some recovery agents led by one Venkataramana Rao on behalf of Standard Chartered Bank harassed Reddy. We’re yet to identify these persons,” the Saroornagar police station Inspector Narsimha Reddy said. On Wednesday evening, Rao and other recovery agents of the bank came to his houseand allegedly humiliated him. The same night, he hanged himself. His daughter Pinky saw his body on Thursday morning. The police said this was the first case of a person leaving behind a note about the harassment by loan recovery agents. A case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC was registered against Rao and others.
