Two youth killed in road accident

Racing on bike proves fatal for students

HYDERABAD: Two Intermediate students met with a gory end while they were racing on a bike near P.V. Ghat on Necklace Road on Thursday.

Death was instant for Faizan, 18, who was riding his Karizma bike reportedly at break-neck speed. The pillion rider Abbas, of same age, battled for life for few hours before succumbing to his injuries at the Gandhi Hospital.

Faizan’s family lives at Charminar. His father Ahmed is a businessman.

Students of Chaitanya College’s Narayanaguda branch, the two friends started off for joyride ride with two other co-students on two bikes around 11.30 a.m. “We’re yet to identify the other two youths who rode another bike,” Ramgopalpet police station SI R. Kalinga Rao said.

The accident occurred near a curve after they zipped past P.V. Ghat and were heading towards Jala Vihar. No one knew what led to the accident but Faizan rammed into an electric pole erected on a median. Neither Faizaan nor Abbas wore helmet. “We heard huge noise only to see two youths lying down -one on the median and other on the road. Two youngsters, apparently shaken over the gory accident, were standing beside but sped away on their bike as we ran to the spot,” the police quoted some labourers working in a roadside garden.

The Ramgopalpet police maintain despite their repeated requests and remainders, the officials concerned failed to erect speed breakers on the road. “We cannot physically stop people driving at such dangerous speed and cannot even note down their numbers. Hence speed breakers appear to be the only solution,” the police said.
