HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday lashed out at Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy for getting his priorities wrong and “remaining airborne in helicopters most of the time.”
Speaking at the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day function at the fully decorated party office here, Mr. Naidu flashed the Government Order granting 30 days parole to Congress leader Gauru Venkat Reddy and said, “Releasing an accused in a murder case shows his priority on such an important day when he should have focussed on future development of the State.”
He said the Chief Minister had developed this habit of safeguarding the interests of wrong people, whether it was corruption in irrigation projects, flyover collapse or land grabbers around Hyderabad. Far from taking action against them, they were being shielded, he alleged.
The Chief Minister was far removed from ground realities, making tall promises and spending crores of rupees on publicity, he said. The Government’s inefficiency was written all over the place, the recent example being the way passengers were trapped for 24 hours in a bus caught in the swirling floodwaters of a swollen stream in Kadapa, a few kilometres away from a place where the Chief Minister was camping.
Mr. Naidu said the Chief Minister remained clueless when the Centre showed its bias against State farmers, offering crumbs of Rs. 50 over Minimum Support Price for a quintal of paddy while granting Rs. 290 a quintal for wheat.
