THANJAVUR: A procession was taken out by local body representatives and officials to mark ‘Local Administration Day’ on Thursday.
Collector C. Vijayaraj Kumar flagged off the procession from the railway station. It made its way through main roads and ended at Thilakar Thidal. The chairpersons of 14 panchayat unions participated. The panchayat unions arranged floats depicting government schemes such as drinking water facilities, Anaithu Anna Grama Malarchi Thittam, Anaithu Anna Marumalarchi Thittam for town panchayats, road facilities, group houses and total sanitation programmes.
The Collector said the aim of the day — observed on November 1 as per a government order — was to create a bridge between the local administration and the people.
K. Rajamani, project officer, District Rural Development Agency and Selvi Sivagnanam, Chairperson of the district panchayat council, participated in the rally.
