Two-day camp from today

Principal Correspondent

KOLKATA: A rainless Thursday cleared the chances of a two-day full-fledged conditioning camp for the senior Indian cricketers, who will converge here on Friday ahead of the one-day series against Pakistan.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced that the Eden Gardens Stadium was ready for the camp.

Pools of water inside the stadium after the unseasonal showers on Wednesday had made the camp doubtful.

“We pumped out the water, used two super soppers and also blankets to dry the outfield,” said the CAB joint secretary Samar Pal.

“The practice pitches have been made ready according to the BCCI specifications and the ground is in good shape,” he added.

Sourav Ganguly, who came to the venue, expressed satisfaction with the conditions.

In case of further rain, the practice sessions will be shifted to the Pankaj Gupta indoor facility, situated adjacent to the stadium.

The players will start arriving early on Friday morning. The first set of the campers, including S. Sreesanth and fielding coach Robin Singh, will come from Chennai.

Next in the order are Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Murali Kartik and Robin Uthappa among others.

The whole squad is expected to be in the city before the team meeting that is scheduled at 3 p.m.
