Looking beyond: Singer Shibani Kashyap in New Delhi. Photo: Shanker Chakravarty NEW DELHI: Singers from Pakistan are popular not only in their own country; they have a wide fan following in India as well. Some have even carved a niche for themselves in India’s vast music industry. Now it’s the turn of our talented singer-cum-composer Shibani Kashyap to strike a chord with music lovers in the neighbouring country. Shibani is heading for Pakistan at the behest of a music director who came all the way to India just to have a rendezvous with her and convince her to record a song for him. After listening to Shibani’s most popular songs “Sajna Aa Bhi Jaa” and “Zinda”, well-known Pakistani music director Farooq Abid was so impressed with her voice that he decided to record a song with her. The song is meant for the launch of a brand new channel in Pakistan called “Hum”. The Delhi girl, who sang the signature tune for AIR FM channel of All India Radio and Amul India, says she took an entire week to record a song for Farooq. “I must say it has been a fabulous experience working with him. It’s great when people from foreign countries appreciate your talent and I’m eagerly looking forward to going to Pakistan as well,” says Shibani, who is mostly composing Sufi-Western kinds of music. Shibani says singers from our neighbouring country are immensely talented and it would be an honour for her to be a part of their work. And speculation is rife that along with Shibani, Farooq is keen to take some other singers from tinsel town to Pakistan as well.
