KOLLAM: All Souls’ Day on the Catholic calendar was observed by the faithful on Friday. It is a day on which the faithful commemorate relatives and loved ones who passed away. As part of the observance, graves in church cemeteries were cleaned and decorated. The observance began by evening on Thursday when people arrived at cemeteries to pay floral tributes, light candles, and pray at the graves of their relatives. On Friday, the day was observed with masses and other formal rituals to commemorate the departed. The faithful believe that the day is observed to remind the living of their obligations to live holy lives. —Staff Reporter
