PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has said that efforts will be made at the earliest to link the rivers in Puducherry region. He was speaking at the concluding session of the 12th National Water Convention here on Friday. Mr. Rangasamy said that when he took up the issue of linking the Godavari and the Cauvery with Union Minister of Water Resources Saifuddin Soz, the Minister asked him to evolve a programme to link the rivers within Puducherry region. As per the suggestion, the government would soon prepare a technical report and send it to the Ministry of Water Resources, he said. Mr. Rangasamy reiterated that the government would not permit the setting up of polluting industrial units in the Union Territory. He said several steps were taken to recharge groundwater table and also to stop intrusion of sea water.
