Belgaum
Belgaum: Almost all the employees of Belgaum City Corporation, except Commissioner P.A. Meghannavar and Assistant Commissioner S.M. Sonnad, came out of their respective offices and took to streets to protest against the allegedly uncivilised behaviour of corporator Netaji Jadhav with a sanitary inspector on Friday. The protest was organised by BCC Employees Union and district unit of Karnataka State Corporation, Municipality, and Town Municipality Poura Karmikara Maha Union. The employees demanded arrest of Mr. Jadhav who had allegedly splashed drainage filth on sanitary inspector of Beat No. 4 at Gade Marg in Shahpur locality recently. The corporator had called the inspector to ensure cleanliness of the drainage in the Gade Marg. However, while cleaning was under progress, the angry corporator allegedly took a bucket, filled it with muck and threw it at the sanitary inspector on Monday morning. On the basis of a complaint, a case was registered against Mr. Jadhav in Shahpur Police Station but the latter was not arrested. Strongly demanding arrest of Mr. Jadhav, the two unions condemned the behaviour of the corporator. They urged the Government to fill all vacant posts of poura karmikas and abolish contract labour system to ensure proper sanitation works in the city. Their other demands included reinstatement of drivers who were removed by former deputy commissioner and the then administrator Shalini Rajneesh, grant of a 20” x 20” room for union office and eviction of staff quarters illegally occupied by retired persons or relatives of the dead employees of the corporation.
