‘Wildlife Week’ to begin from November 12

MYSORE: The 53rd Wildlife Week will be observed in the city from November 12 to 17. The prime objective of observing the Wildlife Week is to educate the people on the conservation of wildlife by holding street plays, painting competitions and other interactive events, a press release from the Forest Department said.

The Department of Information has organised a street play on the theme “Wildlife conservation” at Aranya Bhavan here at 2.30 p.m. on November 12. An elocution competition on the same topic has been organised at the bhavan at the same time.

An essay writing competition has been organised at Vanita Sadana Balika High School at 2.30 p.m. on November 13. An on-the-spot painting contest has been arranged on the banks of Lake Karanji on November 14 at 9.30 a.m.

A discussion on the issues concerning wildlife and its conservation will be held at the bhavan on November 15 at 2.30 p.m. and a quiz programme will be held at Regional Museum of Natural History on November 16 at 2.30 p.m.

Sensitisation

A jatha of schoolchildren and college students will begin from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple here to sensitise the people on wildlife conservation and protection of forest wealth on November 17. At 11 a.m., the valedictory function of Wildlife Week will be held at Maharaja College Centenary Hall.

The winners of the competitions will be taken on a one-day trip to Bandipur and Nagarahole, apart from awarding them prizes, on November 18, the press release said.
