CPI (M) seeks sub-quota for Arunthathiars

Special Correspondent

PUDUCHERRY: Activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday courted arrest near the Assembly complex demanding among other things sub-quota for Arunthathiars and setting up of a separate welfare board for shoemakers.

Led by State committee members of the CPI (M) P. Selvasingh and T. Murugan and Puducherry unit secretary of the party V. Perumal, the activists, including women, took part in the protest.

Some of the activists, carrying red banners and raising slogans in support of the demands of the Arunthathiars, resorted to road-roko.

Addressing the party volunteers, Mr. Selvasingh said that the party would launch a relentless struggle against all forms of untouchability and discriminatory practices against the Dalits. Mr. Murugan said that the Arunthathiars were the worst affected among the Dalits.
