4 killed in car-lorry smash

KARUR: Four persons, including a woman and a child, were killed in an accident near Aravakurichi on Karur–Dindigul National Highway-7 on Friday.

Police said the accident occurred when a car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry carrying bags of dhal from Dindigul. The victims were from Mayiladuthurai. While A. Poovithazh (30), wife of G. Arulmurugan (38), died on way to hospital, Asnika (4), Poovithazh’s daughter, R. Suresh (21) of Chennai and S. Sukumar (23) of Vanthavasi were killed on the spot.

Arulmurugan, who was seriously injured, has been shifted to a private hospital here.

The Aravakurichi police have registered a case and are investigating. — Staff Reporter
