NCP condemns hike in Doon land rates

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Uttarakhand unit president Suryakant Dhasmana has urged Chief Minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri to roll back the steep increase in land circle rates for Doon City.

The nearly four times increase in circle rates will put land out of the reach of the common man who already finds it difficult to buy even a small piece to build a house, Mr. Dhasmana said describing the move as anti-people.

Real estate prices in the State have skyrocketed over the past few years with land becoming the most lucrative investment . In Dehra Dun, some unscrupulous property agents from as far away as Delhi have been known to hike the prices on a monthly basis. “Although the Chief Minister’s orders for a strict check on illegal sale of land of houses constructed without the necessary approval have put brakes on the real estate boom, Mr. Khanduri would do well to ask the Mussoorie Dehra Dun Development Authority or State Awas Vikas Nigam to come up with plots and flats at nominal rates,” said Mr. Dhasmana.
