Thousands flee volcano

JAKARTA: Volcanic activities have been intensifying at Mount Kelud in the Indonesian main island of Java over the last few weeks, prompting nearly 7,000 residents to evacuate.

Local scientists have detected countless volcanic tremors from one of the country’s most active volcanoes, indicating that an eruption is imminent.

Umar Rosadi, the head of the emergency response team, said the temperature near the crater had reached 41 degree Celsius.
