Inter-State vehicle theft: two arrested

KOCHI: A routine vehicle checking by the City Police four months ago led to busting of an inter-State network of vehicle thieves.

A police party had stopped a van (KL-14 1044) at Chullikkal. The police became suspicious about the documents produced by the owner. They learnt that a person named Syed had sold the vehicle to the present owner. Further inquiries led to a case registered at Matunga police station in Mumbai. The driver of the vehicle was shot and the vehicle stolen in the case, Sunil Jacob, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mattanchery), said.

The police, who were keeping a tab on the main accused in the case on Thursday arrested Syed, 42, of Malappuram, and his accomplice Abdul Majeed, 46, of Puthanathani, from Aluva based on a tip-off by informants.
