Stolen property recovered

Four high-end cars among goods recovered

BANGALORE: The North and South-East division police have solved 160 cases of burglary, robbery and vehicle theft and recovered gold ornaments, electronic goods, mobile phones and vehicles, together worth Rs. 1.13 crore.

The most significant of these detections was made by the Peenya police, who recovered four high-end cars worth Rs. 39 lakh and Rs. 4 lakh in cash by arresting four persons on charges of cheating and theft. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Syed Ulfath Hussein told presspersons on Friday that posing as businessmen from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district, the accused hired a high-end car from a travel agency in Victoria Layout to visit Peenya industrial area on October 8. On reaching Tumkur Road around noon, they asked the car driver to go to a restaurant to find out if lunch was available. Before the driver Somashekar could return, the accused sped away in the car worth Rs. 19 lakh.

Mr. Hussein said the four were part of an inter-State gang and the cars recovered from them were stolen from Peenya, Nelamangala, Mysore and Kundapur police station limits.

In another case, the HSR Layout police solved 24 burglaries by arresting a three-member gang.

The police recovered gold jewellery, silver articles and mobile phones, all worth Rs. 26.5 lakh from the accused who were identified as Harish (24) of Malleswaram, Velu (32) of Bharathinagar and Ramesh (33) of Siddapura.
