TDP threatens to agitate if notices not given

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday threatened to launch an agitation unless notices regarding increase in property tax given to owners of commercial premises recently were not cancelled soon.

It demanded fresh assessment of the tax based on relevant High Court orders.

At a press conference here Telugu Mahila State secretary Ch. Suhasini Reddy and TDP legal cell district president M. Ramana Reddy among others alleged that Municipal officials had increased the property by 500 times in some cases.

They pointed out that in a similar instance earlier the High Court had issued orders stipulating a hike by 75 per cent on old structures and 100 per cent on new structures. The TDP leaders also pointed out that the Municipal officials did not make public a GO number 731 that was received by them on September 27. This GO though contravenes the High Court stipulation, says the hike should be 100 per cent in case of old buildings and 150 per cent in the case of new buildings.
