KANCHEEPURAM: Funds are no longer a major constraint for local bodies, Labour Welfare Minister T.M. Anbarasan has said.
He was participating in the Local Bodies Day celebrations at Orathur in Kundrathur panchayat union on Thursday.
The Minister said sufficient funds were allocated to the local bodies under various schemes.
Development works in all villages
Infrastructure development works were taken up in villages and panchayats throughout the year.
The Local Administration Department was working towards ensuring basic infrastructure facilities in all rural local bodies within the next four years, he added.
Cynosure of all eyes
Collector Pradeep Yadav said the underground drainage system implemented in Alandur Municipality under the build-operate-transfer scheme had become the cynosure of all eyes. Local body representatives and officials from Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Ahmedabad visited Alandur to learn more about it, he said.
The liquid waste management programme implemented in Chitlapakkam town panchayat had become a model for other civic bodies, he said.
Kundrathur panchayat union chairman A. Manoharan said grievances of villagers with regard to basic infrastructure facilities were being fulfilled in short periods owing to government support to the local bodies.
