Historians appeal against demolishing State Archives

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy on Friday has said that every effort would be made to avoid demolishing the State Archives building at Tarnaka.

Even if the building gets affected by road widening, the Osmania University would be persuaded to spare land to build a new facility to house the precious documents.

He gave the assurance when a delegation of history scholars led by Dr. V.K. Bava, and others called on him on Friday to urge him to protect the building.

They informed him that many valuable documents, maps, rare books and records of historical importance are preserved in the archives building.

And if demolition of the building is inevitable for facilitating the metro rail alignment, the archives should be accommodated in a new building at the university itself rather than shift it to the Hi-tech city area, they appealed.
