TIRUCHI: Christians in Tiruchi took part in special masses in cemeteries to observe ‘All Souls’ Day on Friday after offering prayers in honour of saints in heaven.

They paid homage to the departed souls in their families by reciting their names, decorating their tombs, and lighting candles.

Safe passage to heaven

They believe that by remembering and praying for the departed ones on All Souls Day, the souls which do penance at the purgatory for the sins they had committed during their lives as humans, would have a safe passage to heaven. Besides taking part in special masses, Christians also distributed sweets and money to the poor.
