HYDERABAD: Films are an ideal medium to convey a message for wider reach. What one tries to explain in the classroom, if presented in the form of a film in a cinema hall, can stay with children for ever. That is what PVR Nest, a corporate social responsibility initiative of PVR Cinemas has chosen to do. As part of organising special screening of ‘Green Films’ in select cities, it has invited about 500 children from 10 schools in the old city to attend the special screening at PVR Cinema, Hyderabad Central, here on Friday. “All of us are witness to environment degeneration around us. The best way to check it is by educating children, the future citizens. And what better way is there than making films that are environmentally educative and entertaining? ” says the chief guest Michel Saint-Lot, UNICEF representative for Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Every child has a right to safe environment and through ‘Green Films’, a movement for better environment by children can be built up, he avers. Three short films were screened back-to-back. ‘Second Hand Life’ was about hazardous effects of e-waste like old computers, mobile phones, TVs, batteries, etc. and the need to recycle them. ‘Chasing Butterflies’ focuses on protecting flora and fauna and ‘Spunky and Monkey’, is a hilarious account of monkey menace in urban areas and need to protect natural habitats to ensure eco-balance. Deepa Menon of PVR Nest says ‘Green Films’ concept has support from CMS Vatavaran, Centre for Science and Environment, National Geographic Channel and Earth Matters Foundation.
