KOLKATA: The two-day conditioning camp for the Indian team got underway as scheduled on Friday. With the rains relenting on time, the practice session was held under lights at the Eden Gardens. The Indian players practiced for almost three hours dispelling fears of a truncated indoor session as initially assumed by the Indian manager, Lalchand Rajput. The early morning rain had left small puddles on the fringe of the ground. But the rain clouds departed soon after allowing Cricket Association of Bengal enough time to get the ground fit for use. There were, however, three absentees; Virender Sehwag, who could not come owing to his father’s demise, Gautam Gambhir, who was captaining Delhi in a match against Pakistan, and Yuvraj Singh. High pressureTalking to the press, Rajput said it would be a ‘high pressure’ series as always. When asked whether the absence of Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif could be considered a gain for India, Rajput said it would not have much ‘impact’. Earlier, the cricketers started arriving in batches with fielding coach Robin Singh and pacer S. Sreesanth being the first to touch down. Sachin Tendulkar and captain M.S. Dhoni, who reached the city by a Mumbai flight, later joined them. Harbhajan Singh and Murali Kartik flew in from Delhi as the squad gradually congregated for the afternoon team meeting. — Principal Correspondent
