Black Cat Director Vinayan’s penchant for novelty is too well-known. His latest venture Black Cat is no different. It throws up a few surprises. The story and script is by Vinayan himself. Black (Suresh Gopi), a tall, dark-skinned and daring youth, is Tharakan Muthalali’s (Rajan P. Dev) henchman. Always clad in black, Black will do anything for his master. Pathrose (Nedumudi Venu) claims that Black is his son. But Tharakan brought him up. Black is a glutton, and has a soft corner for Tharakan’s daughter Blessy (Karthika). The fun and frolic of the coastal belt is well portrayed. Turning pointHowever, the happiness is shattered with the arrival of Dr. Meenakshi (Meena), an expert in Ayurveda. She is accorded a warm reception by the fishing community. Meena happens to see Black in a jovial mood dancing with the crowd and begins to observe him closely. He bears a stark resemblance to someone she had befriended in Mumbai. She makes enquiries in the beach about Black and also meets with an Ayurvedic acharyan Moosad (Thilakan). What is revealed is startling. Suresh Gopi does a totally different character. The cast includes Jagadeesh, Indrans, Mukesh, Harisree Asokan and Jaffer. Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma and Rajeev Alunkal are the lyricists. Alphonse and M. Jayachandran score the music. Camera is handled by Venugopalan. Black Cat is produced by Rajendran for Goodway Films. G. Jayakumar
