Bollywood brings some firecrackers

Bollywood’s big Deepavali releases are ready for the showdown. Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya may set the screen on fire, going by the buzz generated by both the movies.

Kerala too is getting a feel of the competition. It is learnt that distributors have brought the movie rights at record prices.

Hindi-movie buffs in Kochi city are eagerly awaiting the releases. Exhibitors say the hype is huge, because of the big names associated with each movie.

Launch pad

Saawariya is the launch pad of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, who play the lead roles. Grandson of Raj Kapoor and son of one of the best romantic on-screen couples in the country, Rishi Kapoor and Neethu Singh, Ranbir has created excitement by his looks and dancing skills on screen. Daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, Sonam has been in the limelight after Bhansali announced her name for the female lead.

The film is also in the news for being the first Indian production of Sony Pictures. Cameraman Ravi K. Chandran’s visuals have already won applause for its lyrical beauty. Ravi was behind the camera of popular movies such as Kandukondain Kandukondain and Kannathil Muthamittal (Tamil), and Dil Chahta Hai, Calcutta Mail and Black (Hindi).

Star-struck

Om Shanti Om is putting up a close fight in marketing and promotional ventures. Farah Khan pulled off a coup of sorts when she brought on screen more than 30 actors in Bollywood for a song in the movie.

The film’s surprise cast is none other than Deepika Padukone, daughter of the former ace badminton player Prakash Padukone. Music is by Vishal and Shekhar. V. Manikandan has handled the camera.
