Hike groundnut MSP by 50 per cent, says Mysoora

Staff Reporter

BASIREDDIPALLE (KADAPA DT.): Telugu Desam Party’s Rajya Sabha member M.V. Mysoora Reddy on Saturday demanded enhancement of minimum support price of groundnut by 50 per cent.

Dr. Reddy inspected groundnut crop damages in Basireddipalle, Veldurthy, Urutur and other villages in Veerapunayunipalle mandal. Recent heavy rains caused vast damage to groundnut crop on verge of harvest, and crop already cut and stored in the form of haystacks have become soaked and rotted, he told newsmen at Basireddipalle. He demanded compensation of Rs. 3,000 per acre for groundnut crop loss.

Groundnut, the main crop in Kharif season in Kadapa district, was cultivated in 1.42 lakh hectares in Kamalapuram, Rayachoti, Lakkireddipalle, Pulivendula and Jammalamadugu constituencies, Dr. Mysoora Reddy said. India was importing edible oils, as it was yet to achieve self-sufficiency in oilseeds, the MP said.
