Irregularities, violation of directive cited as reasons BIJAPUR: The Government has annulled the controversial recruitment of 67 faculty members in the Karnataka State Women’s University (KSWU), Bijapur, on the ground of irregularities committed in the process by the university authority. An order to this effect was received by the university on Saturday, and it was brought into force immediately. On July 12 the KSWU Syndicate chaired by the then Vice-Chancellor Syeda Akhtar recruited 67 faculty members, ignoring the Government direction that had asked her not to go ahead with the meeting and the recruitment. Only 48 faculty members had joined the service. However, their service stood withdrawn from Saturday. The four-page order issued by Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who is the Chancellor of the university, took serious objection to the manner in which the recruitment was pushed through. The Governor cited several reasons that led to the annulment of the recruitment, such as the Syndicate was held without pre-requisites; those, about whose candidature Justice Venkatesh Murthy Commission of Enquiry had made adverse comment, had been appointed; and Dr. Akhtar has been accused in the corruption case. Meanwhile, acting Vice-Chancellor V.B. Maganur and Registrar G.V. Sugur convened an emergency meeting of faculty members and informed them of the development. Mr. Maganur told The Hindu that the order had asked the university to take the service of willing faculty members on temporary basis to continue the classes of different course that had already commenced. The order also asked the varsity to review all the appointments in the next Syndicate meeting.
