Elephants destroy standing crop

BERHAMPUR: A herd of ten elephants suspected to have strayed out of the Lakhari sanctuary have started destroying standing crop in paddy fields near Kumbhajhari of Kukudakhandi block in Ganjam district.

According to Berhampur Divisional Forest Officer S.N. Mohapatra, forest officials located the herd near Anantei hill near Mahuri Kalua temple about 20 km from the city on Saturday.

A team has been deployed to use crackers, drums and torches to drive back the herd from the spot inside the jungle during night.
