Speaker ‘sore’ with TRS for moving apex court

Issue pertains to the disqualification of rebel TRS MLAs

HYDERABAD: Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy reportedly expressed his displeasure to Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders for taking the issue of disqualification of rebel TRS MLAs to the Supreme Court when he was directly looking into the matter.

The Speaker is said to have made the remark when the TRS floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao presented a memorandum quoting the Supreme Court’s directive urging him to dispose off the issue of disqualification within three weeks. The Speaker on Saturday summoned the TRS leaders and the rebels to hear the disqualification case.

Adjourned

He is believed to have made it clear that a fax received by his office only stated that the matter had been adjourned for three weeks. He reportedly stated that ample opportunity was being given to both the sides to put forth their views on the issue.

Mr. Suresh Reddy is also said to have pointed out that the Legislature was an independent institution, which was following a set of rules to look into the issue of disqualification and that the petitioners and respondents need not nurture a feeling of being left out.

He was only exhausting all options before taking a final decision.

Talking to reporters, Dr. Vijayarama Rao said he had submitted a memorandum in the wake of Supreme Court direction urging the Speaker to dispose off the case in three weeks and got an assurance to the effect. Rebel TRS legislators Mandadi Satyanarayana Reddy and Duggiyala Srinivas Rao refuted the claim saying that no such assurance was given.
