Rallies staged against acid attack on college student

Students condemn the act, demand lecturer’s arrest

cry for justice: Students staging a rasta roko at RTC Complex junction in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, in protest against acid attack on a girl student at Palasa in Srikakulam district.

Srikakulam: Political parties, non-government organisations and women’s organisation conducted rallies and dharnas, and educational institutions in Palasa and Kasibugga remained closed on Saturday, demanding severe action against Damodaram, who threw acid on the face of Kalpana on Friday.

Students from all educational institutions participated in the rally. They condemned the insolent act of Domadaram and demanded his immediate arrest.

The TDP and the Congress made resolutions in the direction. Meanwhile, Ms. Kalpana who sustained 35 percent burn injuries was taken to Visakhapatnam for further treatment.

Damodaram is still at large.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Students of the Government Women’s College and other colleges in the city took out a rally from the old jail road to RTC Complex on Saturday and staged a rasta roko in protest against the acid attack on a girl student at Palasa in Srikakulam district.

The girls raised slogans demanding stringent punishment for Damodar. They also sought that strict measures should be initiated to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future. The rally concluded in a rasta roko at RTC Complex.
