Guntur philatelists hog limelight

Bag maximum number of prizes at Vizag exhibition



Guntur philatelist MVS Prasad receiving Gold Medal from Chief Postmaster General Yashodhara Menon in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

GUNTUR: Philatelists from Guntur district bagged the maximum number of prizes (12), including two gold medals, at the Andhra Pradesh Philately Exhibition, APEX-2007, organised in Visakhapatnam on Thursday and Friday.

Out of four gold medals, Guntur philatelists bagged two, seven silver, one bronze and both the special jury prizes in the senior and junior categories.

While the Eternal Journey of Railways showcased by M.V.S. Prasad won a gold medal and a special jury prize in the senior category, students of Kanna English Medium School bagged the Hyderabad Philatelic Society special jury prize in the junior category for collection of year-wise stamps on ‘Vatican Country City Collection’.

At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Prasad, who is also secretary of the Guntur Philatelic Association, and Kanna Mastar of Kanna English Medium School said that the exhibits were widely appreciated and they were able to surpass the quality collection of Hyderabad district.

This would provide the winners a direct entry into the National Philatelic Exhibition.

Winners

The winners were: M.V.S. Prasad: one gold, one silver medal and special jury prize; Kanna English Medium School: one gold, special jury prize; A.V. Krishna Rao: silver medal for British Post Mark; K. Naga Suresh: silver for British Decimal; N. Kishore Babu for bible; N. Prakash Reddy: silver for Progressive Die Proof of French Colonies and another silver for Maximaphily; P.H. Venkateswara Rao: silver medal for Birds collection and a bronze medal was bagged by K. Narayana Murthy for his collection on Bhutan.
