TIRUCHI: A joint meeting of the police and revenue officials to discuss about the precautionary measures to be taken in view of the Deepavali festival in the district was held on Saturday.
The meeting, presided over by the District Revenue Officer A. Nambirajan, was attended by the Superintendent of Police N. Rajasekaran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) A. Kaliyamoorthy, Revenue Divisional Officers, Tahsildars and retail and wholesale cracker traders.
It was decided during the meeting that licence had to be obtained for selling crackers at the prescribed places. The prescribed places should not be extended hindering public and vehicular movements, an official release said adding that the police and revenue officials were instructed to use video cameras to monitor if there was any obstruction.
The district administration has warned that cracker licence would be cancelled in case violation was detected. Surprise checks would be conducted to prevent sale of crackers without licence.
