Father-son duo held

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: A father and son, who attempted to dupe a village woman, landed themselves behind the bars, thanks to her presence of mind.

Thavasumani of Kattunaval, near here, received a telephone call from a man, who claimed to be her neighbour Thangadurai, residing in a foreign country. He told her that he had sent jewellery worth Rs.1.50 lakh through an agent and asked her to collect it at Lenavilakku after paying Rs.50,000.

The woman, who runs an STD booth, became suspicious and immediately switched on the micro-phone only to ascertain that the voice did not match with that of her neighbour.

However, she agreed to collect the jewellery after paying the cash to the agents.

She preferred a complaint with the Namanasamuthiram police, who laid a trap for the culprits. The callers, K. Subbiah (52) and his son Anand (35), were arrested by the team led by Inspector Periyasamy. They were remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
