PUDUKOTTAI: The district administration has finalised a draft plan for removal of all encroachments from the water bodies in the district based on a directive of the Madras High Court, Collector D. Uthirakkumaran has said.
At an official meeting to discuss steps to be taken for the implementation of the directive, Mr. Uthirakkumaran said the court had ordered the clearing of encroachments on the water-course ‘poramboke’ land and other water sources by May next. It had also directed stringent action against anti-social elements that were bent on selling the land, exploiting innocent people.
The Collector said it had been planned to prepare a list of land on water sources in the district. The Registration Department had been directed not to register the above lands. The lands were under the control of the Departments of Public Works, Local Administration and Revenue. The area of the tanks and the water supply channels under the control of the PWD were being measured through the Department of Survey and Land Records as per the Tanks Protection Act 2007. The department would later survey the boundaries of the tanks and ponds under the control of the departments of Local Administration and Revenue. The departments concerned would take steps for the permanent protection of the lands of all water bodies.
The records of the tanks and other water bodies, the maps showing their boundaries and details of the extent of encroachments should be handed over to the departments.
