Stone laid for new academic block at Maharaja’s College Minister promises steps to ensure quality of education KOCHI: Education Minister M.A. Baby said here on Saturday that the government would initiate steps to revise university curriculum. In his inaugural address after laying the foundation stone for a new academic block at Government Maharaja’s College here, the Minister said that the curriculum change would be made after holding consultations with experts. The Higher Education Department would also invite suggestions from college managements before finalising the revised curriculum, he said. Mr. Baby said that the Education Department had plans to bring a scheme to encourage students in government and aided colleges who emerge top in cultural festivals every year. Referring to the higher education scenario in the State, Mr. Baby said that the government would take steps to ensure quality of education. The Minister said that the Higher Education Department had concerns about the existing quality of higher education. Aid from Simon BrittoThe new academic block on the Maharaja’s College campus would be set up using the Rs.54-lakh financial assistance being provided by Simon Britto, MLA. The three-storey building will have classrooms and a centre for physical education. During his speech, Mr. Britto requested the Education Minister to allot new courses for the college. He also urged the college authorities to complete the construction of the new block at the earliest.
